Helping Hands for the Handicapped - This is what the Angeles de Medellin Program is all about

Over the past 3 weeks the Angeles De Medellin Program has aided 3 very special people with medical assistance and food.

Kevin
First we would like you to meet beautiful angel, Kevin, a 10 month old boy abandoned by his mother from Sincelejo, Colombia.

He and his two aunts, Sandra and Dina Luz came to Angeles de Medellin program on Friday the 9th August to ask for help. They have adopted Kevin after his mother sadly no longer wanted him. The program immediately bought diapers, milk and supplies for them.

Thanks to your generous donations we were able to purchase food and will be aiding Kevin with his medical problems. In approximately two weeks Kevin will begin operations on his hands feet and head and we will keep you updated on his progress.

Next meet Wilhelm, he was given a new pair of crutches and food for his family and lastly his neighbor, Luisa Fernanda and her family, were also assisted with much needed food and we are presently working to get her government aid on a long term basis.

Luisa Fernanda

Our priority is to provide assistance to as many people as possible, and thanks for all the support from all the volunteers for their time and donations.

Because there are Guardian Angels all over this world we can continue to say YES to people like Kevin, Wilhelm and Luisa Fernanda who have no one else to turn to for aid.

This is why the Angeles de Medellin program exists.

2013 - A banner year in numbers!

2013 has been quite a year, a banner year for Angeles de Medellin. In the first 6 months we received over 400 volunteers from 5 different continents! and that number continues to grow...

We also kicked off in style with a new centre, 3 times larger than the one before. On December 1st 2012, the Angeles volunteers cleaned and painted our new facility and a million thanks goes to those volunteers who did an incredible task of organising everything in less than 3 weeks and at the same time organising the huge Christmas party. Super job amigos!

English classes started in February with more than 60 students learning English for free, but also branching out thanks to our global volunteers, to learning French, Japanese and even Hindi.

Volunteers and Angelitos together!

Here's a few amazing activities and donations that made 2013 a banner year so far...
  • 6 clothing give-away days with over 1900 people receiving free clothing
  • 5 parties with over 3000 children attending
  • Computer and English classes for all in the area served by the program
  • Range of sports including Friday Frisbee activity, Hula Hoop, Football, American Football and Baseball games
  • The month of May saw the generosity of Jono from Scotland and the Shamrock Irish Pub of Poblado, Medellin purchase with the help of 6 Scots and Canadians a large, and I mean a large TV screen (see pic below!), for movies and activities to be used by the program in the mountains. Thanks Amigos, big time!
  • In June 400 children and adults received much needed new shoes and sneakers because of a wonderful donations from 3 Colombian shoe vendors
  • In our larger facility, music, balloons, dancing, singing, games and sports are a daily routine for the families in the Angeles program
  • The program was also able to purchase food for over 40 families
  • Paid off a mortgage on one home a family would have been evicted from losing all they had
  • And finally ... provided medical assistance for over 25 families in varying needs of help
This all happens, because of the wonderful volunteers who devote their time, money and love to the little Angelitos (Angels) in the mountains.

I cannot express my undying appreciation to everyone past and present, who has made the Angeles de Medellin program unique, special and filled with love each and every day.

Sincerely,

Marcos Kaseman

Papa Noel makes a trip from the South Pole to South America - 6th Annual Christmas Party 2012

On December 21st to 22nd, yes two whole days, over 4000 children received toys, clothing, food and enjoyed a Christmas Day that they won't ever forget high up in the Andes mountains of Medellin, Colombia at the Angeles de Medellin program.

Just some of the many supplies, toys, clothing
receiving gifts from Father Christmas

We started the day with 250 families, who either had handicapped children in need or adults older than 65 years of age, giving them much needed supplies at this special time of year.

For 2, 12 hour days, over 60 volunteers from 10 countries worked very hard and tirelessly to make the 6th Annual Angeles de Medellin Christmas party a success.  A big thank you to our volunteers without them and donations this would not be possible.

Volunteers gather for a group shot after another Christmas party success

And of course we cannot forget our special guest, Papa Noel, Father Christmas, Santa Antonio himself came in from the South Pole, to make this day a merry one. Ho Ho Ho!!!

Director Marcos and Papa Noel hold up banner reading
"The Children and Families Thank 'Angeles de Medellin', for the help to make
this a wonderful Christmas. Feliz Navidad!"
